Hi, I’m Akalya Jekajeevan

I am a BA Interior Design student driven by a passion for creating meaningful, human-centred spaces that respond to people, place and experience. My approach to design is shaped by storytelling, atmosphere and emotion, with a strong interest in how interiors can support wellbeing, connection and everyday interaction.

Alongside my academic studies, my freelance work in photography and videography has strengthened my visual eye, helping me understand the importance of composition, light, materiality and narrative within a space. This allows me to approach interior design not only as a functional discipline, but as a way of creating experiences that feel considered, memorable and purposeful.

I am particularly interested in adaptive reuse and sustainable design, transforming existing buildings while respecting their history, character and cultural value. Through my university projects, including collaborative design work such as redesigning a student bar, I have developed skills in teamwork, concept development, sustainability research and visual communication. These experiences have helped me become confident working in fast-paced environments, sharing ideas, meeting deadlines and contributing to a wider design vision.

As a designer, I aim to create spaces that positively influence how people live, work and connect. I am motivated by curiosity, collaboration and the responsibility designers have to create thoughtful, inclusive and environmentally conscious interiors.
